Jimmy Butler was drafted by GarPax #30 Overall by the Chicago Bulls in 2011. |
And it is so hard to not be excited; Gar Forman and John Paxson have collaborated to draft some of the most essential components (and signed the rest) of this year's battling, scratching, clawing, overachieving Chicago Bulls team that stood toe-to-toe with the Miami Heat and never backed down despite having starter after starter lost to injury. GarPax will have a chance this summer to draft closer to the middle of the first round with the #20 Overall Pick.
While selecting at the tail end of the draft ever since taking Derrick Rose with the #1 Overall Pick in 2008, GarPax has been simply brilliant. Here are the Chicago Bulls' draft picks since 2008:
2012 | ||||
Round 1 | Pick 29 | Marquis Teague | Kentucky
2011 | ||||
Round 1 | Pick 28 | Norris Cole* | Cleveland State
Round 1 | Pick 30 | Jimmy Butler | Marquette
Round 2 | Pick 13 | Malcolm Lee | UCLA
2010 | ||||
Round 1 | Pick 17 | Kevin Seraphin** | France (Cholet Basket)
2009 | ||||
Round 1 | Pick 16 | James Johnson | Wake Forest
Round 1 | Pick 26 | Taj Gibson | USC |
*(Recall that Norris Cole was traded to the Miami Heat as part of a deal for the Draft Rights for Nikola Mirotic)
**(Recall that Kevin Seraphin was traded to the Washington Wizards along with Kirk Hinrich to free up cap space to sign two max players during the Summer of Lebron)
With a solid track record of draft picks who are solid contributors to the Bulls such as Taj Gibson and Jimmy Butler or show solid potential such as Marquis Teague and Nikola Mirotic (who was recently named Spanish league MVP), we can almost bank on GarPax drafting another Chicago Bulls player worth cheering for.
As of right now, the most promising players slated to be available to the Chicago Bulls with the #20 Overall Pick are:
1. Tim Hardaway, Jr. SG (6-6, 200, Michigan)
2. Gorgiu Dieng C (6-11, 230, Louisville)
3. Archie Goodwin SG (6-5, 189, Kentucky)
4. Allen Crabbe SG (6-6, 197, California)
5. James McAdoo SF/PF (6-9, 230, North Carolina)
6. Tony Snell SG/SF (6-7, 198, New Mexico)
We will feature each of these players in coming articles, so stay tuned!
