Chicago Bulls Sweep Season Series With the Heat: The Aftermath of the "Crying Game"

Basketball nation received a lot of information about the landscape of the NBA after the Chicago Bulls defeated the Miami Heat in the final seconds of their game Sunday. Here are some of the more obvious insights gleened from the third chapter of the 2010-2011 edition of Chicago Bulls vs. Miami Heat.

The Chicago Bulls are a really good team
The Chicago Bulls showed that what they lacked in star power, they made up for in great team play and team defense.

The Bulls are truly greater than the sum of their parts, and that, combined with Derrick Rose's ability to carry the offensive load in the clutch, makes the Chicago Bulls a truly complete team.

The Bulls players trust each other in a way that we did not see from Miami. On Lebron's final play, he did not even consider passing because he either wanted the glory for himself or he did not trust his teammates to make the play. Whatever the reason, failure was the result for Miami, and the Bulls garnered another quality team win.

Luol Deng had a solid game head-to-head against Lebron James and made some big plays to help seal the win for Chicago.

The Chicago Bulls could be a SPECIAL team
With their balance and great teamwork, the Chicago Bulls can certainly be a special team. They have a definite identity forged from their head coach's defensive focus and their superstar's unselfish will to win.

The entire team has bought into Coach Tom Thibodeau team defense concept and all the players accept and embrace their roles.

Derrick Rose has lead the team by his example of hard-work and his unselfish and humble demeanor. But there is the fire and desire to win at the heart of their leader, Derrick Rose, and the team follows this, as well.

DRose made his mark and took over the game in a way that neither DWade or Lebron were able to do on the national stage with all the MVP voters watching.
There is real comraderie between the players, and they play for each other and have fun doing it. This has been a mark of the most successful teams and dynasties.

The Miami Heat are also "special"
Espcially dysfunctional. The Miami Heat have been exposed; for all their "talents", they have yet to form a cohesive team with defined roles. Despite putting up great individual statistics, the threesome are merely just All Stars playing beside each other and out for their own stats. And for all the talk of being deserving of accolades like MVP based off of their statistics, the big three have yet to elevate their teammates the way MVPs are supposed to. If they continue to stat stuff, the Miami Heat will continue to lose to the best teams in the NBA, as their 0 wins - 9 losses record against the top 4 teams in the league suggests.

The MVP picture got a lot clearer
Indeed, Derrick Rose went off, just like he went off for a career high 42 points against the league leading San Antonio Spurs before the All Star Break.

DRose has become the go-to guy that the Bulls and Bulls fans have been dreaming of since Michael Jordan. He steps up in big game against the toughest opponents, and playing the Heat in Miami on the national stage was no exception.

Like Jordan, he took on the two Co-MVP candidates for Miami, and on one play scored on both on an amazing fast break layup.

The Bulls fought back from a 12 point deficit to take a lead, and in the fourth quarter, when the Heat came back to tie the score at 76 - 76, DRose scored the next 6 points of the game to give his team enough cushion to relax and play hardnose Bulls defense.

Meanwhile, with two Co-MVP candidates, the Heat, with the last shots of the game could not get it done. Again, James and Wade failed to score to tie or win the game in the final 10 seconds, a streak of futulity that clarifies what the players mean to their teams.

Derrick Rose carries his team to victory. James and Wade, even with two options to be defended by opposing defenses, both fail their team when the game will be won or lost and they need a play the most.

Derrick Rose IS the NBA MVP
No stats needed other than DRose takes the final shots for a team that has a winning record against the top teams in the NBA, including 3 wins - 0 losses against the Co-MVP candidates, James and Wade, and the Miami Heat.
