CHICAGO BULLS OFF-SEASON REPORT: Chicago Bulls Meet Kris Dunn and Minnesota Timberwolves For Las Vegas Summer League Championship Tonight

LAS VEGAS. After being linked much of the off-season in trade talks over Jimmy Butler, the Minnosota Timberwolves, and one of the key players in the proposed trade deal, Kris Dunn, are the only thing standing in the way of the Chicago Bulls notching a perfect NBA Summer League record.

Kris Dunn might have been headed to the Chicago Bulls in a draft day deal for Jimmy Butler.

Prior to the 2016 NBA Draft, the Chicago Bulls were in advanced negotiations with Minnesota Timberwolves new team president and former Chicago Bulls' head coach, Tom Thibodeau, regarding a trade that would send Jimmy Butler to Minnesota in exchange for Andrew Wiggins and Minnesota's 2016 #5 Overall Pick.

The Chicago Bulls were very transparent about their interest in using the #5 Overall Pick to draft Kris Dunn out of Providence, if available.

The Timberwolves refused to include Wiggins in the deal, and Chicago would not consider parting with their best player without receiving Wiggins in return, so talks stalled.

Ultimately, Kris Dunn was available at the #5 Overall Pick, and Minnesota made him their selection, possibly with the expectation of revisiting the Jimmy Butler trade.

Kris Dunn has proven to be one of the best players in Summer League at first glimpse (although he has been limited to only 2 games due to suffering a concussion), however he has averaged 24.0 PPG, 7.0 RPG, 3.0 APG, 2.0 SPG, 1.0 BPG, in 34.0 minutes per game. He drained an eye popping 54.3% from 3-point land.

Meanwhile, the Chicago Bulls bring a perfect record (6 - 0) into the title game.

During their Summer League run, the Chicago Bulls have won on the strength of a balanced attack.

Five Chicago Bulls are averaging double figures, lead by second year forward Bobby Portis, who is also averaging 9.3 RPG (4th in Las Vegas).

Denzel Valentine has had a strong summer league in helping the Chicago Bulls go undefeated going into tonight's title game.

In addition, new Chicago Bulls rookie Denzel Valentine has been solid, and he is proving to be the well-rounded player we were expecting as the AP College Player of the Year in his final year at Michigan State.

One thing that has really stood out about Valentine is his ability as a big guard to rebound. He is averaging 6.5 RPG and has posted rebound totals of 10 and 8 in his last two games against Washington and Cleveland.

We hope he has been saving his biggest game for tonight.
